Incredible technology allows our physicians to perform diagnostic tests and procedures – and even intervene in cases of vascular and cardiac disease. Through our fully-integrated cardiac catheterization service, we are able to check the heartand coronary arteries – to determine if a patient has disease in the coronary arteries, and if so, to pinpoint the size and location of any disease. In addition to cardiac catheterization, Thomas Heath also provides therapeutic intervention to treat vascular disorders in a minimally invasive manner, including Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Thomas Health provides a range of diagnostic tests and procedures, all with highly trained cardiologists who specialize in diagnosing and treating Peripheral Arterial Disease. Services at Thomas Health include cardiac catheterization, arteriograms, peripheral angioplasty and stenting. In addition, our Cath Lab is used for permanent pacemaker and implantable defibrillator placement. Every diagnosis, intervention or device placement procedure also incorporates the exceptional care for which Thomas Health is known.
What is Cardiac Rehab?
The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends patients who have been treated with a stent or angioplasty receive cardiac rehab. The AHA describes cardiac rehab as the ability to:“…provide education and counseling services to help heart patients increase physical fitness, reduce cardiac symptoms, improve health and reduce the risk of future heart problems, including heart attack” (www.heart.com). Cardiac Rehab includes heart monitoring with an EKG, blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring. This allows for a tailored program specific to your needs.
Why is Cardiac Rehab important?
Regular physical activity helps your heart and the rest of your body get stronger and work better. It also reduces your chances of future heart problems, including heart attack. You have the advice and close supervision of healthcare professionals to help you improve your health and lower your risk of future problems. These professionals can also communicate with your primary care doctor or cardiologist. Our Cardiac Team will format a Cardiac Rehab Program tailored to your specific needs and condition. As a team, yourself, your physician, Cardiac Rehab and Thomas Health will create a plan leading you toward better heart health.
